Supporting the Work of Iowa Legal Aid
The Iowa Legal Aid Foundation was incorporated in 2005 for the sole purpose of supporting the work of Iowa Legal Aid in achieving its mission of making hope, dignity and justice available to low-income Iowans.
The Iowa Legal Aid Foundation provides leadership in fundraising on behalf of Iowa Legal Aid. All of the funds raised by the Foundation are provided to Iowa Legal Aid to help address the legal needs of low-income Iowans. The Iowa Legal Aid Foundation is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation and has been determined to be tax exempt by the Internal Revenue Service. Donations to the Iowa Legal Aid Foundation are tax deductible. Tax ID #72-1597019.
Iowa Legal Aid provides legal help to low-income Iowans facing legal problems involving civil (non-criminal) legal issues. Iowa Legal Aid helps the legal system work for those who otherwise cannot afford the help of a lawyer. Typical cases involve problems with basic necessities, fundamental rights or safety, including:
- Protecting victims of domestic violence.
- Preventing illegal evictions and unsafe housing.
- Securing income support such as SSI, Medicaid and disability benefits.
- Preventing consumer fraud and abusive debt collection practices.
Economic Impact
Iowa Legal Aid’s work has tremendous social and financial impacts in communities all across the state.
